The Production Scheduler plays a key role in supporting the efficient flow of work through the sheet metal fabrication process. This position is responsible for validating Bills of Material (BOMs), assisting with production planning activities, and performing administrative tasks to ensure accurate and timely release of job travelers to the production floor and shipments to customers. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a solid understanding of manufacturing documentation and workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
BOM Validation & Data Accuracy:
The Production Scheduler plays a key role in supporting the efficient flow of work through the sheet metal fabrication process. This position is responsible for validating Bills of Material (BOMs), assisting with production planning activities, and performing administrative tasks to ensure accurate and timely release of job travelers to the production floor and shipments to customers. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a solid understanding of manufacturing documentation and workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
BOM Validation & Data Accuracy:
- Review and validate Bills of Material (BOMs) for accuracy and completeness prior to job release.
- Verify material types, quantities, part numbers, and revisions against engineering drawings and customer requirements.
- Coordinate with engineering and purchasing to resolve discrepancies or missing information.
- Assist in scheduling and prioritizing jobs based on customer due dates, material availability, and production capacity.
- Support the creation and maintenance of production schedules and work orders.
- Communicate job status updates to internal stakeholders (engineering, purchasing, production supervisors, and customer service).
Job Traveler Administration:
- Prepare and issue job travelers, ensuring all necessary documentation (drawings, BOMs, routings, and quality requirements) are included and accurate.
- Track job travelers through production and update system records as required.
- Assist management with monitoring and driving more accurate scanning of job travelers while in process.
- Ensure released jobs meet company documentation and traceability standards.
- Maintain accurate and organized production records and documentation.
- Support ERP/MRP data entry and updates related to production jobs and materials.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives related to workflow efficiency, documentation, and data integrity.
Qualifications & Skills:

- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or coursework in manufacturing, operations management, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment, preferably in sheet metal or related industry.
- Familiarity with BOMs, routings, and job travelers in an ERP/MRP system.
- Strong computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, and production tracking tools.
- Excellent organizational skills,attention to detail, and project management mindset.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
Preferred Experience (a plus):
Working Conditions:- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Netsuites, SAGE, M1 or Global Shop Solutions.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes (cutting, forming, welding, finishing).
- Understanding of engineering drawings and material specifications.
- Office and production floor environment within a metal fabrication facility.
- Requires regular interaction with engineering, purchasing, sales, and production staff.
- Working hours typically will be Monday-Friday 7-3:30pm
