Position Description
The Fabrication Apprentice is an entry-level position designed to develop the next generation of skilled fabrication professionals within a custom fabrication job shop environment. Through hands-on training, mentorship, and progressive skill development, the apprentice will learn fabrication, welding, machining, assembly, blueprint reading, safety practices, and production processes over a structured four-year apprenticeship program.
This position is intended for individuals who are committed to building a long-term career in manufacturing and custom fabrication. Candidates selected for this role are required to commit to completing the full four-year apprenticeship program and maintaining satisfactory performance, attendance, safety, and participation standards throughout the program duration. The program will entail 144 hours of instructional training per year through mostly evening classes, in addition to working full time (2080) hours a year at APX on a day shift.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Learn and assist with fabrication, welding, machining, fitting, grinding, assembly, and material handling processes.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, shop equipment, and fabrication machinery under supervision.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, work orders, and production specifications as training progresses.
- Participate in structured on-the-job training and skill development programs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Assist skilled fabricators, welders, machinists, and supervisors with production tasks and projects.
- Learn proper measuring, layout, cutting, and material preparation techniques.
- Support quality standards by following instructions and completing work accurately.
- Attend required 144 hours of evening training sessions and development activities at either the Manufacturing Association or related training center (ex: Thaddeus Stephens).
- Will be required to complete the Apprenticeship Program with the Manufacturers Association with a grade average of 72% or above.
- Demonstrate reliability, teamwork, accountability, and a willingness to learn.
- Progressively develop independent skills and increased responsibility throughout the apprenticeship program.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- Technical school, vocational training, welding coursework, or prior manufacturing exposure preferred but not required.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn skilled trades.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and positive attitude.
- Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with a team.
- Basic math and measurement skills preferred.
- Commitment to completing the full four-year apprenticeship program.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, push, pull, twist, and lift throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, welding flash, dust, and moving equipment.
- Ability to wear required PPE including safety glasses, steel-toed boots, hearing protection, gloves, and welding protective equipment.
