Position Summary
APX Enclosures is seeking a CNC Laser & Punch Press Programmer to support our sheet metal fabrication operations. This role is responsible for translating engineering designs into efficient, accurate CNC programs for laser cutting and turret punch press equipment. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with sheet metal manufacturing, strong nesting and material optimization skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with engineering and production teams.
This position is not focused on CNC machining (mills/lathes) but instead on sheet metal CNC equipment, including lasers and punch presses.
Key Responsibilities
Program CNC laser and turret punch press machines using CAD/CAM software.
Convert DXF and related engineering files into accurate, production-ready CNC programs.
Create and optimize part nesting to maximize material utilization and minimize scrap.
Review and collaborate with Engineering to ensure drawings and DXF files are complete, accurate, and manufacturable.
Partner with machine operators to support program setup, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
Adjust cutting parameters, tooling selections, and machine settings to ensure quality, efficiency, and consistency.
Support production schedules by delivering timely, reliable programs that meet customer and quality requirements.
Maintain organized program files and documentation in alignment with company standards.
Qualifications
Proven experience programming CNC laser and/or CNC turret punch press machines in a sheet metal environment.
Proficiency with CAD/CAM software such as Optimation, AutoCAD, or similar sheet metal programming systems.
Strong understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes and material behavior.
Experience working in a manufacturing environment; ERP system familiarity is a plus.
High attention to detail with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
Technical degree in engineering, drafting, manufacturing technology, or a related field strongly preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively with engineering, production, and operations teams.
